Punch Buggy Blue! No Punch Backs!
April 23rd, 2007
That never gets old. I love when I’m out driving around and I hear that. Now that it’s BEAUTIFUL out, I can have my windows open! Yay! Of course, I HAVE to have my windows open when it’s warm because my AC is busted - it probably just needs to be recharged (or at least I hope that’s it), but I haven’t gotten around to doing that yet…
We celebrated the awesome weather this weekend by fixing up our porches. I found a “camp hammock” for the front porch at Target. It’s really cool: the frame just pops right open and then you attach the sling hammock onto it. SIMPLE! And it’s SOOO nice to lay on the hammock and feel the breeze come through the screens on the porch. I totally love hammocks - Alex proposed to me on one so I think I’ll always have a hammock.
For the back porch, we found a little wooden bistro set at The Christmas Tree Shop. It’s totally cute - a square wooden table with two wood folding chairs. We also found a little teak side table that we put our little electric grill on. We have to have an electric grill because both of our porches are enclosed. We’ve used the grill twice so far and it actually works pretty good. Alex made steak tonight - it ROCKED. (He’s awesome!) We also bought some mini light bulb string lights that sort of remind me of the lights that they have in the Macaroni Grill. Alex hung them up tonight and they look awesome! I found a navy blue lantern on clearance at Target and it looks hella cute out there.
It’s awesome having all of the windows open in the apartment and it’s great having two porches. We’re really in love with our apartment - finally.
Oh, and it’s 95 days until our wedding!!!!! I’ve finally been able to REALLY get myself motivated. I figured it out that I’ll need to lose 2 lbs a week in order to get to my goal weight by the wedding - so I’m totally back on program with weight watchers and not missing out on the gym. It’s easier, of course, now that it’s not SNOWING. I’m trying to do Core again. We’ll see how this works out for me…

I woke up this morning, annoyed at myself for not getting up early to go to the gym. The TV was on, which meant that it was about 7:30 am. Alex came into the room, drying his hair after the shower. “Residents were forced from their homes last night when a fire broke out in a large apartment building in the Stockade,” the lady on the news said. Alex and I stopped and looked at each other and then at the TV. The reporter went on to say that the fire was at 9 N Church St. Our old buidling.
I did the vindication dance.
Now, don’t think I’m mean. I wasn’t happy that people may have lost some of their stuff to the fire. But I did feel justified in moving. I think that people thought we were crazy for moving again. I mean, since June 05, we’ve moved four times. That’s insane. But now we’re in such a cute apartment - a place that finally feels like home! I am so glad that we’re out of the last place! The fire started in the same apartment that the smoke came from last time. Adam was at the fire with the fire department. He said that they came down on Scott. Good. Perhaps if he wasn’t telling people to not call the fire department when they saw smoke, this fire wouldn’t have happened. Jerk.
Anyway… Sooooo, so, so glad that we’re in our new home!!

December 12th, 2006
Seriously, I could have started a fire. I’m peeing my pants right now. Was sitting here and suddenly smelled something burning. Then my monitor went dark - well, went dim. My laptop was plugged in… Something must have happened to my power source. Started to freak out because the power cord was plugged in behind the sofa. Looked behind the sofa and saw no fire. My power cord for my computer was under a blanket beside the sofa. Didn’t realize it. Moved the blanket and smelled the burnt electronics smell. Went to grab the power thingy and it burned my hand. SOOOOOO freaking scary. What if I fell asleep?! Maybe it woulnd’t have actually started a fire… The thing is just fried, now. Which totally blows. My battery is half gone… SUCK. Now I’m going to have to buy a new one. Crap. Actually, should probably shut the computer down right about NOW.
(Of course, this means that I still can’t start my Christmas shopping… Was going to start shopping online tonight - yeah… waiting till the last minute… crap crap crap crap crap.)
(Oh, and the thingy is still freaking HOT!)

Today sucks so far.
Got up to go to the gym and went out in the hallway of our apartment building and saw smoke. The neighbor across the hall was also standing in his doorway. I freaked out. Alex called 911 from our apartment phone, and I called our super from my cell. I packed up my laptop, my camera, my phone, my ipod, some of my jewelry, and the insurance information for the apartment. I put together the cat carrier and grabbed my teddy bear (which Alex rescued after our last apartment burned). The fire department got here and started to go through the halls to try and find where the smoke was coming from. I wanted to cry - one of the guys saw me and said, “everything’s ok”. I hate that I wear my emotions right on my face all the time. They determined that someone two floors above us was cooking hot dogs or something stupid like that. Seems insane that she was cooking and it filled the hallways two floors down with smoke. She didn’t want to let them in her apartment. I’m sure she’s got drugs in there or something. We live in a building with a bunch of scumbags. I can’t wait to get out of here.
We went to the gym because I couldn’t stand to be around the fire trucks and the smoke. When we got there, the super called me and told me that I shouldn’t call the fire department when there’s smoke - just call him. Well let me tell you what, I went OFF on him. I told him that I’d had an apartment burn down on me before and I’d lost everything and I am NOT going through that again. I told him that when I see smoke, I call the fire department and I’ll do that no matter what he says. I am SO pissed off. We are TOTALLY moving. The people who live in this building are irresponsible, creepy people. And I’m sure that there is shit not up to code if the super doesn’t want me to call the fire department. I mean, three floors, at least, were filled with smoke and no smoke detectors went off. WTF?! We can afford to live in a much nicer place than this, but we’ve been staying here because I can walk to work from here and we only have one car right now. I’m not staying here any longer. I mean, we found out this AM that even the super moved out recently. It’s such a shame, because the neighborhood is super cute. Whatever. It’s not worth staying here anymore.
We took the day off so that we could relax a little bit and start looking for other places to live. (Also, I want to go dress shopping again.) I actually brought some data home yesterday so I’ve got some stuff that I can get done for work today from here. I hope we find something soon…
