After Midnight Again
April 22nd, 2008
I will never, ever manage to get back on a schedule where I can go to sleep at a normal hour and then get up for the gym in the morning. It’s after midnight again and we are still awake - Alex playing on his PS3 and I’m doing random crap on my computer.
I decided around 10:30pm that I’d finally print out a bunch of our wedding pictures and figure out where to hang them. Once I figured out where I wanted my groups of frames to be hung, I set to work in iPhoto flagging the pictures that I wanted to print - but found myself running back and forth to my frame groupings to try and figure out which picture I wanted where and in what size I’d have to print it. Then I remembered Skitch. I snapped pictures of the frame groupings I had laid out on the floor with my iPhone, imported them onto my iMac and opened them up with Skitch. In Skitch, I could very quickly and easily add text elements which could be changed, dragged around, and updated as I was working. Here’s an example:

OK, well, the example is kind of hard to see because I was working with a big image and reduced it for posting online and so my fonts look tiny. Anyway… Skitch totally made my little on the fly project easy and fun.
Oh, and the interface can be pink (for girls) and the icon is this crazy little pink heart so I love it.
How Narcissistic am I?
April 16th, 2008
Big bro let me know that my main page (aliwolly.com) wasn’t working. I stupidly deleted my index page page in a fit of cleaning the other night. Duuuuuuh. So I just whipped together something real quick to put up for now (have some other ideas, but no time right now) and I couldn’t help it, I used my favorite picture of myself from our wedding. Our photographer rocked. I guess I can be a little narcissistic about that picture… it’s one of the only ones in the world that I actually can stand to look at myself in.

So I finally switched off of BlogSpot to a WordPress blog hosted on my little rented server space that I’ve had since 2004 (when I first thought of doing this…). My Blog is six years old this month, and in honor of that anniversary, I figured it was time for a change.
I’m still working things out - I may not stick with this theme, though I really like it right now and I’m playing around with the widgets (yep, having a calendar of posts and a drop down of archives is a little redundant, but… Whatever! Whatever! I do what I want!). I did my little “About” page last night and have started to go through past posts tonight to categorize and tag them (so the tag cloud and category numbers are not exactly reflective of the final counts yet…). Anyway, I’m having some good geeky fun - and it keeps me from obsessing about work at night.
(Although, it doesn’t actually get me to bed any earlier than the nights where I stay up working forever… But at least it keeps me from becoming too terribly one dimensional - though it doesn’t help me out any in the social department…) Well, I’m rambling and it’s late so I guess I should make myself go to bed…
Oh! I am so P-Cited!
April 14th, 2008
I got my invite to the beta of Evernote! I don’t know why I think it’s such a big deal… It’s just a software beta. But it seems like it’s going to be really useful and cool. Weee!
(David coined the term ‘p-cited’ in our family and it stuck with me. Much like ‘Wham’. :))

Evernote seems like it will solve some of my organization and syncing issues between home and the office - and it seems wicked cool! I want to try this out so badly! I can have a desktop client installed on my iMac at home, my laptop at work, and access the web portal via my iPhone. Perfect! I just love the idea of a constantly available digital notebook as a repository of images, thoughts, ideas, etc. I registered for the Beta but who knows if I’ll ever get an invite. (So, if anyone Googled Evernote or somehow got to my wee little corner of cyberspace and happens to already have an Evernote account and happens to also have an invitation left, please feel free to send one my way - Hi.There.Ali AT aliwolly.com.

For the blog. Not us - for a change.
I decided to switch over to have blogger host my blog instead of ftp-ing to my server. I did this because the new version of blogger has some nifty features that I wasn’t able to take advantage of before, like the ability to use layouts to modify the look of your blog (although, sillily enough, I made the layout look exactly like I had it before) and the ability to include the tag list - I mean, why bother tagging my posts if I can’t display a nifty list of the tags to choose from? I’ve been toying around with the idea of upgrading my blog to a different Content Management System, but I’d need to change my hosting to a differnt type of server and it seemed like so much work so I figured I’d stick with what’s free and easy for now.
I’ve still got some tweaking to do, but in the meantime, enjoy - and don’t forget to update your bookmarks/favorites!
